Exhibition
AROUND THE ROCKPOOLS
30TH OCTOBER – 28TH NOVEMBER 2025
THE PALMS PRAVILIONS GALLERY
327 MONA VALE ROAD, TERRY HILLS
NSW 2084
Caressa’s sculptural vessels draw on the history of her family’s Palm Beach boatshed, using coastal textures and found materials to explore memory and place. Lydia’s paintings respond to the balance between ocean and built form, particularly Sydney’s ocean pools, using refined palettes and clean, structured compositions.
Together, their works form a dialogue between landscape, material and coastal identity.
MOTION OF THE DEEP
2ND NOVEMBER 2023
THE STUDIO BY LAING+SIMMONS
CAREEL BAY MARINA 94 GEORGE ST,
AVALON
Motion of the Deep presents new ceramic works by Caressa Gonsalves, exploring the physical and emotional depths of her life experiences. With a profound connection to the ocean, Caressa works with wheel-thrown forms, handbuilt elements, moulded shell textures and layered glazing to translate memory, feeling and the rhythm of the sea into sculptural vessels.
A percentage of sales from the exhibition will be donated to the children’s charity Variety, continuing her commitment to creating work with meaning and impact beyond the studio.

The diversity of the work in this exhibition reflects the artists’ skill and creativity, as well as the agility of the clay medium which can be moulded and transformed into sculptural objects. The artists’ statements provide the opportunity for the artists to articulate their ideas and inspiration, and alongside their work, present a deep experience for the viewer.
The artists would like to acknowledge and thank; the ceramics teachers Janine Brody, Chris James and each of the staff at NBC for generously sharing their abundant knowledge and expertise and for bringing out the best in them over the period of study; Greg Piper for photographing the works, and Katherine Roberts for her enthusiasm and time in selecting the pieces for the exhibition.
